ID:	2880846 veterinary students from 20 countries attended Royal Canin’s ‘Ambassador Today’ meeting at its central campus in Aimargues, France recently. The two-day event was the second time the pet food manufacturer has gathered such a large group of students together.

The aim of the event was to communicate recent advances in clinical nutrition and to give the young delegates a thorough understanding of the Royal Canin company ethos, approach to nutritional science and product development. Most important however, was the chance to bring together a truly eclectic and social group of blossoming pet health professionals to embark on one of the first networking opportunities of their careers.

All the attending Student Ambassadors have been tasked with representing Royal Canin, its products and the science behind themto their university’s student body. The ambassador programme seeks to support the vets of tomorrow by sharing nutritional knowledge and providing educational resources to those who need it most.

Royal Canin hosted 5 students from the UK and Ireland. Matt Barnard from the University of Bristol was one of these students. He commented: “I’ve learnt so much about Royal Canin and I’m proud to have been a part of the programme for the past five years. This whole event has been the perfect way to end my vet school experience and, going into UK practice, I will continue to promote the good work of the company to encourage healthier pets.”

Lee Danks MRCVS, Veterinary Scientific Support Manager for Royal Canin said of the event: “With a student rep like Matt in every vet school, we’re able to engage with many of the 5000 plus vet students across the UK and Ireland.”

He added: “Having a truly international group of students in the same place at the same time resulted in a healthy to-and-fro of ideas. We’ve learned much about what works and what doesn’t when it comes to understanding and supporting a vet student’s needs and have made significant leaps forward in implementing plans for the 2014/15 academic year. I’d say the Ambassador Today event was a great success… and great fun as you’d expect!”
